The Liahona points the way to follow Jesus Christ. Alma taught that the Liahona is a symbolic representation of the scriptures (Alma 37:45). The scriptures guide us like the Liahona "according to the faith and diligence and heed we give". We Step Toward Christ as we hold the Liahona in our hands and take a step as it directs. Making the scriptures our guide and Christ our destination helps each of us to become true followers of Jesus Christ and enjoy the blessings of the temple.
One of the spindles on the Liahona "points the way whither we should go" on the covenant path. Like the spindle, ordinances are markers that guide us. There are many strange roads, but the Savior marked the path that follows him with priesthood ordinances. We can be assured we are following the Savior as we are guided from ordinance to ordinance making and keeping sacred covenants with our Father as we go. As we become endowed with power, we are able to turn outward to help others step toward their next ordinance. My next ordinance includes those of my family, loved ones and ancestors.
The second spindle represents personal guidance. This guidance is personal revelation that comes directly from our Father in heaven as we seek after it. Everyone's next step is personal and may not look the same as the people around us. The Liahona works according to my faith to show me my next step. No matter where I am currently standing, if I turn to face the Savior and take a step, I am stepping toward Christ.
The writing on the Liahona "changed from time to time according to the faith and diligence" given. Recent spiritual experiences are new and revelatory. Our new messages come through our prayers, the scriptures, our meetings and the temple. The Gospel can be constantly new and amazing when we receive personal messages from God like the new writings on the Liahona of old.
As followers of Christ and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we live the Gospel, care for those in need, unite families for eternity in temples, and invite all to receive the Gospel and come unto Christ through baptism. Together, as members of the Dimple Dell Stake, we minister to each other and Step Toward Christ.
